Develop AVERE into THE voice of Europe’s transport electrification revolution

  • Represent AVERE and the e-mobility industry to European decisionmakers and stakeholders
  • Grow the association in every way
  • Manage the Secretariat and day-to-day operations

AVERE is the only European association representing and advocating for electromobility at both EU and national levels on behalf of the entire ecosystem. This includes national associations, industrial stakeholders (from both the vehicles and charging infrastructure side), EV users, academics, public authorities and more. AVERE and its 65+ members have set themselves the goal of achieving entirely emission-free sales of light and heavy-duty vehicles by 2035, in order to achieve complete decarbonization of road transport by 2050.

 To reinforce its new strategy in the face of electromobility take-up and rapid industry expansion, AVERE, the Brussels-based European Electromobility Association, is actively seeking a Secretary General to navigate this changing landscape and meet the new challenges posed by the new European Commission.

 The Secretary General is the permanent "face" of the association and the industry in Brussels, ensures the day-to-day management of the Secretariat, the general affairs of AVERE and plays a proactive role in guiding the strategy and development of AVERE. The Secretary General acts under the supervision of and in consultation with the Board and the General Assembly (= the members). He/she is responsible for ensuring that the Association operates in compliance with the law and that the Secretariat fulfils its obligations and responsibilities towards its members.

Main tasks:

The Secretary General’s duties will include:

  • Developing and maintaining a high reputation for AVERE and strengthening the organisation’s brand in Brussels as well as internationally
  • Representation and be the face of the federation for the positions of AVERE towards:
    • the EU institutions;
    • relevant European level stakeholders groups (associations, NGOs, public authorities, industries, consumers, etc.);
    • the press & media;
    • the general public;
    • others
  • Developing and implementing strategies to strengthen and promote AVERE’s collaboration with other organisations, institutions or networks working in the field of electrification and mobility
  • Expanding the membership of AVERE
  • Ensuring that the statutes & by-laws of AVERE, and any procedures or policies developed by the Board and/or General Assembly, are applied and respected by staff and members
  • Sustaining and establishing new partnerships
  • Overall responsibility for the day-to-day administration, including:
    • budgeting, book-keeping & accountancy, and financial reporting to the Board and General Assembly
    • hiring AVERE staff and supervising their work and terminating their employment in full respect of the applicable legislation
    • overall responsibility for managing the work projects of AVERE
    • ongoing management of relations with suppliers and service providers
    • ensuring that premises fit-for-purpose and adequate supplies and equipment are available for the secretariat to carry out its functions effectively within the limits of the budgets available
  • Fulfil and organise all relevant administrative obligations of the federation:
    • Issuing invitations and agendas for General Assemblies, Board meetings and other meetings
    • Administration and follow-up of General Assemblies, Board meetings and other meetings
    • Notification of all statutory changes to the official Belgian gazette, where appropriate
  • Dissemination of appropriate information to members


  • Relevant experience working in management, either at a private company, NGO, public authority or think-tank with a focus on public policy. Previous work experience in European policies is a plus.
  • Experience building an organisation’s reputation for thought leadership and excellent communication skills, demonstrate a diplomatic approach in handling policy work, and exhibit the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent organisational and project management skills and ability to meet deadlines. Great multitasker and capable of simultaneously managing multiple projects with different deadlines.
  • Must be able to think analytically, strategically and creatively.
  • Superior written and verbal communications skills, including extensive experience writing and editing. English as required minimum, all other languages are a plus.
