AVERE welcomes the proposal by the European Commission to review the Driving Licence Directive to take account of the specific nature of zero-emission mobility, which is set to increase significantly in Europe with the 2035 objective of phasing-out internal combustion engines.
AVERE, the European Association for Electromobility, welcomes the European Chemicals Agency's environmental protection objectives, and acknowledges the intention and overall approach of the proposal to restrict PFASs under the revised version of REACH. However, AVERE fears that a blanket restriction on all uses of PFAS - including for the manufacture of EV batteries and for mobile air-conditioning systems (MACs) in vehicles - would have dramatic effects on the road transport sector's transition to zero-emissions.
AVERE welcomes the European Commission’s proposal revising the Weights and Dimensions Directive which is a key element to accelerate the market uptake of battery-electric heavy-duty vehicles which currently are heavier than their internal engine counterparts but contribute in a more significant way to the transport emission reduction objectives.
AVERE welcomes the Commission’s proposal for a European Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA).
Raw materials such as Lithium and Rare Earth Elements will form a crucial enabler of the EU’s energy transition in the coming years. In the context of accelerating global competition for critical and strategic resources, Europe must maintain its openness to trade and mutually beneficial international cooperation, and better exploit its domestic production potential, whilst strengthening its resilience and de-risking its current supply chain structures.
AVERE welcomes the European Commission's proposal for a Net-Zero Industry Act (NZIA).
This legislative proposal, combined with other recently proposed legislation such as the Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA), has the potential to harness Europe's innovative industry and help it thrive in order to achieve Europe's net-zero emissions goals by 2050.
