Read moreThe upcoming review of the HDV CO2 standards will mark a defining moment for the European road freight sector. A zero-emission strategy for HDVs would encourage manufacturers within the EU to ramp up their electric and green hydrogen offerings, supporting the transition to zero emission vehicles in other markets that look to and rely upon vehicles from the EU. It will determine how fast the EU transitions away from polluting fossil-powered trucks to clean zero emission alternatives and if the EU will lead or be left behind in this inevitable industrial transition. We call on the European Commission to show leadership for the sake of Europe’s industrial competitiveness and climate-neutral future.

Read moreWe, as stakeholders from the entire e-mobility ecosystem, are writing to you to express our concerns over your most recent comments to Brussels media, in which you warned of “gigantic disruption” to the automotive sector in the face of reinforced car and van CO2 standards.
This “gigantic disruption” is in fact a major transition to a cleaner, more sustainable Europe in line with the legally binding obligations of the EU Climate Law. The phase-out of ICE cars and vans in 2035 – which was given a democratic mandate by the co-legislators just over one week ago and hailed as an example of European leadership ahead of COP27 – is crucial to provide certainty to investors, decision-makers and civil society.

We, the undersigned associations active in the e-mobility and wider energy ecosystem believe that demand-side flexibility measures are currently under-leveraged in the EU’s response. The smart electrification of road transport can and should play a critical role in support of electricity demand reduction, energy independence, and the integration of more renewable electricity into power grids thanks to the activation of demand-side flexibility.
